Stephen Norrington’s infamous adaptation of Alan Moore’s graphic novel THE LEAGUE OF EXTRAORDINARY GENTLEMEN was plagued by budget escalation, studio interference and on-set battles. However, the studio that brought us the film, and forced Sean Connery to decide he was too old for this shit, has decided to characters belong on the small screen. 20th Century Fox has commissioned a pilot to possibly advance into a one-hour drama reuniting Captain Nemo, Allan Quatermain, Mina Harker, the Invisible Man and Dr Jekyll/Mr. Hyde.
Michael Green, who has recently penned the sequel to Ridley Scott’s BLADE RUNNER, will serve as executive producer and showrunner for the the television project. However, and perhaps not surprisingly, Alan Moore will not be involved in its inception.
Would you love to see Moore’s Avengers-style Victorian ensemble on the big-screen? Do let us know.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Despite its most ridiculous premise, the comic book was a masterpiece, pretty much like anything Alan Moore does. With some luck, this new adaptation will make us forget that awful movie if they do things right. Then again, this new version being made by the same studio that made the movie, there’s reasonable doubt that it will suck major ass. Wait and see.
