‘Texas Chainsaw 3D’ Team To Remake Romero’s ‘Day Of The Dead’

Day-of-the-Dead

Lati Grobman and Christa Campbell, who produced a surprise sleeper hit with moderately budgeted direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s classic, THE TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, have acquired the rights to remake George Romero’s zombie classic, DAY OF THE DEAD. They forged a deal with Taurus Entertainment, who themselves gave us the woeful 2008 remake starring Mena Suvari, Ving Rhames and Nick Cannon.

Their company, Campbell Grobman Films, will immediately hold meetings with screenwriters to see who’ll be considered to pen the film based on Romero’s cruelly overlooked 1985 original, the third of his first zombie trilogy and arguably the legendary directors last great effort. It’s expected they’ll collaborate once again with Millennium Films, with a budget in the region of $10- $20 million.

Campbell, who is an actress herself, commented:

Zombie movies are really popular right now, and we feel we could do this right. We want to keep it as close to the Romero version as possible, to make sure that his fans are happy. These are not going to be zombies climbing walls and doing back flips like in ‘World War Z.

Partner Grobman added:

We wanted to prove that “Texas Chainsaw 3D” was not a fluke. Everybody in town was claiming they were behind its success. We wanted to show that we didn’t just get lucky. It was a very calculated production.

Excited for another round of zombie madness?

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

If you’re going to make it as close to the Romero version as possible, just watch the Romero version and a) save yourself money and b) save yourself the hassle of everybody telling you that your film sucks balls
