Family-favourite DESPICABLE ME 2 managed to hold the number one spot for the second week running, according to box office reports.
Over the past weekend, the animated comedy garnered $44.8 million, with a domestic running total of $229.2 million. It also looks as if the Universal winner will soon surpass MONSTERS UNIVERSITY, with DESPICABLE ME 2 earning a tiny $8.6 million less than its Disney Pixar rival. According to worldwide figures, DM 2 has so far made $472.4 million, while MS has raked in $474.2 million – only $1.8 million between them.
As for the rest of the box office, there’s not much to be desired:
1. DESPICABLE ME 2: $44.8 million
2. GROWN UPS 2: $42.5 million
3. PACIFIC RIM: $38.3 million
4. THE HEAT: $14 million
5. THE LONE RANGER: $11.2 million
It looks as if the minions are winning!
