Weekend TV Catch Up: The Americans & More

weekend catch up

Did you have fun in the sun this weekend? Well some of us here at THN are quite sun-phobic, so instead we stayed in with the air conditioning on. But did your socialising make you miss some of the best TV around this weekend? Do not worry, here is our quick reviews of TV’s best this weekend…and we’ll let you know what is worth the sneaky catch up at your desk.

The Americans- ITV1

Episode seven of THE AMERICANS hit our screens this weekend, but proved to be a little dire after the action packed episode from last week. Philip heads to New York to set up a new target but finds himself partnered up with his old lover Irina. Agent Beeman finds himself cheating on his wife with his mole, and Beeman starts to get a conscious. A bit of a filler episode, but none the less still a good watch.

Orange Is The New Black- Netflix

One thing we do love about the Netflix original series is the fact we don’t have to wait a week for the next episode, and we had a lot of fun cramming in as many episodes as possible. ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK might make you feel like saying “Oh hey, another middle class white woman we’re supposed to feel sorry for?” but it’s the supporting characters and their stories that make you come back for more.

Top Of The Lake- BBC2

Jane Campion’s TOP OF THE LAKE headed to BBC2 this weekend, and fronted by MAD MEN’s Elisabeth Moss, it proved that BBC2 did not fancy giving up their run of great acted dramas this year. Check out a full episode review from THN’s Vicky Bull here.

Law & Order: UK – ITV1

DCI Brooks and the gang returned to our screens this weekend, but it was straight into the deep end as they deal with a horrific train crash killing 15 people. Even though the series is now missing Harriet Walter, her replacement Paterson Joseph fills the part nicely. The two parter continues next week, but if you can’t wait that long you can buy the episode on ITunes or rent the episode on ITV player.
