The suitably-named Marc Webb seemed an inspired choice for the blockbusting reboot THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN. After all, his 500 DAYS OF SUMMER was full of heart and a joy to behold thanks to two central performances JGL and the dreamy Miss Deschannel. Something Sam Raimi’s original trilogy closer was sadly lacking. While the emotional and grounded aspect was most apparent in 2011s THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN, the moment a giant lizard appeared on screen… well, lets just say it became a bit of a mess.
We have our fingers crossed for the forthcoming sequel and our look at the first intense footage over at San Diego Comic Con certainly impressed us. We say intense but lighter moments of Paul Giamatti’s Russian mobster The Rhino with his pants around the ankles had us wondering if Spidey would go all DELIVERANCE this time? I joke of course but it seemed out of place in that extended (and uncompleted) first trailer.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 is released 2nd May 2014. It stars Andrew Garfield, Jamie Foxx, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Denis Leary, Martin Sheen, Colm Feore, Paul Giamatti, Chris Cooper, Dane DeHaan and Felicity Jones.
