‘V For Vendetta’ Helmer To Direct ‘Bloodsport’ remake

Australian filmmaker James McTeigue is all set to direct a modern day remake of the superb 1980s movie BLOODSPORT, according to reports in trade paper Variety. The V FOR VENDETTA director will take on the movie, based on the 1988 original which played a huge part in Jean Claude Van Damme’s entry into Hollywood. Robert Mark Kamen (TAKEN) will pen the screenplay, based around the character Frank Dux, a martial arts expert who partakes in the deadly tournament, the Kumite. The original was based on a true story.

The new film will revolve around the Brazil’s Vale Tudo fighting style, and will be shot in the country and over in Australia.

Relativity Media are backing the project.
