Ben Foster To Get On His Bike For Stephen Frears’ Lance Armstrong Biopic

Ben Foster Red Light Winter

The cycling world was rocked earlier this year by the admission of disgraced cycling superstar Lance Armstrong had indeed used performance enhancing drugs during his years at the top of the sport. While we’d recently brought you the news J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot Productions was to produce a big-screen biopic with Bradley Cooper rumoured for the drug cheat lead, as well as a Warner Bros. attempt set to be directed by Jay Roach from a script by Scott Z Burns. Both projects being adapted from Juliet Macur’s bestseller Cycle of Lies: The Fall of Lance Armstrong’. Now we now have news of another project in works over at Working Title and one with a confirmed lead, director and writer!

The underrated actor Ben Foster will hop on his bicycle to portray the seven-time Tour de France winner, recently stripped of those titles for his part in the cover up of his and his teams devious actions. TRAINSPOTTING scribe John Hodge has penned the screenplay which will chart Armstrong’s career rise, his battle with cancer ordeal and the scandal that brought him down. Ultimately casting a suspicious eye on the sport forever. Oscar-nominee Stephen Frears will direct the film.

We’l keep you posted as it comes together.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
