The Weinstein Company’s latest has had a rather bumpy ride to the big-screen, thanks to a ridiculous lawsuit filed by Warner Bros. regarding a similar 1916 title that is still to be resolved, but we’ll finally see THE BUTLER released in the US in a matter of weeks. The film follows the life of White House butler Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker), who served over several decades at the world famous address through terms beginning with Dwight D. Eisenhower and ending with Ronald Reagan, going on to witness trials and tribulations of those in charge of the country.
PRECIOUS and THE PAPERBOY’s Lee Daniels directs the all-star biopic that includes Robin Williams, James Marsden, Liev Schreiber, John Cusack, Alan Rickman, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, David Oyelowo, Mariah Carey, Jane Fonda, Minka Kelly, Oprah Winfrey, Lenny Kravitz, Melissa Leo, Alex Pettyfer, and Vanessa Redgrave.
THE BUTLER is released in US cinemas 16th August, while a UK date has yet to be announced.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
