Warner Bros. have announced they are to take on the task of creating a biopic based on the life of mutli-millionaire fugitive John McAfee.
CRAZY STUPID LOVE directors John Requa and Glenn Ficarra are to write, direct and produce the project, with the story based on John McAfee’s Last Stand, an article written by Joshua Davis.
However, it seems McAfee is hot property at the moment, as Canadian companies Impact Future Media and Equinoxe Films have also announced they are to make a film surrounding the elusive criminal. The companies secured the rights to McAfee’s life story back in December, and their biopic already has a name, RUNNING IN THE BACKGROUND, so this could be a legitimate challenge against Warner. It does seem a little strange for Requa and Ficarra to move from rom-com to real-life drama…or maybe it’s a stroke of genius? We’ll have to wait and see how things play out.
