Cameron & Fox Confirm Three ‘Avatar’ Sequels To Shoot Simultaneously!

Earlier today, it was revealed that James Cameron had hired screenwriter Josh Friedman (TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES) to help pen the sequels to Cameron’s 3D box-office behemoth, AVATAR. While is was always expected AVATAR 2 and 3 would shoot back-to-back, we now have word of even more Pandora adventures as well as some of the other talent behind them! It’s now official, coming via Cameron and studio 20th Century Fox, that we’ll not only see AVATAR 2 and 3 but also 4, with the first set for release at Christmas 2016 and each year later.

All three will film simultaneously and in addition to Friedman, RISE OF THE PLENET OF THE APES’ Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver, and SAVAGES’ Shane Salerno, will all contribute alongside Cameron, to the franchise. It’s still unknown if each will work on one particular film (Jaffa and Silver are obviously a screenwriting team) or whether they’ll all work together but it at least confirms we’ll finally return to that stunning landscape and those strange blue Na’vi creatures.

AVATAR is still by far the highest-grossing film of all-time and distinctly remember being blown away during a 3D IMAX screening on it’s initial theatre run. However, despite having the film of Blu-ray, I’ve yet to revisit and it still sits sealed on my shelf. Was I blindsided by Cameron’s pretentious box-office bollocks? I’m off to see if I wasted a fiver when I picked it up in the sales!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
