We’ve just updated you on two new Pixar films, THE GOOD DINOSAUR and INSIDE OUT, but with TOY STORY 3, MONSTERS UNIVERSITY and even CARS 2 being successful sequels (I’m talking money, not quality), it’s no surprise that the sequels are going to keep on coming. At D23 (Disney’s version of Comic-Con), Pixar have given us a few more details about FINDING DORY, the FINDING NEMO sequel. The plot will see Dory looking for her parents, which suggests the title isn’t so much hinting at a rehashed plot, but more of a search for identity. We’re guessing she’ll find her parents, as Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy will be lending their vocal chords to the aforementioned roles. Ty Burrell, of DAWN OF THE DEAD, THE INCREDIBLE HULK, and MODERN FAMILY fame, will also join the cast as a Beluga Whale.
Please note that the information below contains minor spoilers for the ending of an as-of-yet unreleased film.
In other FINDING DORY news, it appears the ending is to be tweaked and rewritten thanks to the stunning documentary BLACKFISH (which was reviewed here). BLACKFISH focused on animals in captivity and the harming effects it can have. FINDING DORY’s ending takes place in a marine park similar to the ones featured in BLACKFISH, and as a result, the ending will now allow the animals in captivity to leave at the end. I think this is a good choice, as I’m still haunted by the darker moments of HAPPY FEET. The writers and animators have over two years until release on 25th November 2015, so there’s plenty of time to make changes.
