Magical heist thriller NOW YOU SEE ME, was quite the summer surprise. It managed to take on superheroes, giant robots, and people being hungover again, and held its ground. That can mean only one thing in the eyes of Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the picture, and that is “sequel”. And who can blame the little scamps? The film has pulled in $233 million worldwide on a $75 million budget. The film is being pushed quickly into pre-production due to the worldwide box office figures, which surprisingly outdid the domestic take. With the film still to be released in China, Japan, and Australia, this could mean even bigger numbers in the near future.
Although I’m all about rooting for the little guy, CEO of Summit Entertainment, Jon Feltheimer, is all about the money:
This is a perfect example of how we’re benefiting from the unique international infrastructure of output deals, joint ventures and self-distribution we’ve set in place to maximize value and minimize risk.
It’s all to do with complex distribution deals and the like, but there is no word on a script, director, or any returning cast at this point. I understand that films have to be sold before they are made these days, but at least lie to us fans about the amazing character development, darker tone, and engrossing story you’ve got planned.
As for titles I think we can all agree that my following suggestions are best:
…NOW YOU DON’T, NOW YOU SEE ME AGAIN, YOU CAN STILL SEE ME, or perhaps NOW YOU SEE ME FOR WHO I TRULY AM.
