The underrated British actor Paul Bettany, so bloody good in GANGSTER NO.1, A KNIGHT’S TALE and the bonkers LEGION, is set to make his writing and directing debut with a project titled SHELTER. It will be a collaboration with Voltage Pictures and BiFrost Pictures, although the plot is yet unknown it’s expected to be set in New York.

Bettany has roped in his stunning real-life ‘other half’ Jennifer Connelly and PAIN & GAIN actor Anthony Mackie to lead. He gave this playful statement about the forthcoming film:

It’s my intention to surround myself with hugely talented people and then claim all the credit. I have great actors, great producers and a great city to shoot in – plus I’m hoping to keep alive the time-honored tradition sacred to directors and seduce my leading actress.

Robert Ogden Barnum, Katie Mustard, Dana Brownm Cassian Elwes, Clay Floren, Melanie Greene, Aimee Sheih and Daniel Wagner will executive produce, with the latter adding:

We are excited and honored for the opportunity to work with Paul on his directorial debut and on such a high-caliber project. This is a terrific story that will captivate audiences worldwide and we look forward to bringing it to the big screen.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
