Nope, it’s not another STAR WARS spin-off, but rather an account of the building of The Empire State Building. EMPIRE RISING which will be produced at Warner. Bros, is eyeing LOCK, STOCK & TWO SMOKING BARRELS director Guy Ritchie. Ritchie and Warner Bros. have proven themselves to have a very solid relationship over the last few years, collaborating on ROCKNROLLA, SHERLOCK HOLMES and its sequel, as well as Ritchie’s upcoming THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
Based on a book by Thomas Kelly, EMPIRE RISING takes place in 1930, just as The Empire State Building begins to become a reality. An Irish immigrant steelworker, criminal underworld liaison for the mayor, and a beautiful artist all find themselves in a love-triangle. Kelly will adapt the screenplay while Ritchie and his SHERLOCK HOLMES and THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E producer, Lionel Wigram, will direct.
