New Stills & Spike Lee Video Interview For ‘Oldboy’ Remake

Director Spike Lee has an impossible job on hands in topping the South Korean masterpiece OLDBOY. Judging from the first red-band trailer, he’s certainly sticking to the same brutal and stylised vision of the 2003 original Park Chan-wook film. Still, I’m desperately eager to see what Lee and his awesome cast, led by the the brilliant Josh Brolin, have in store for their take on the graphic-novel by Garon Tsuchiya and Nobuaki Minegishi.

OLDBOY is a provocative, visceral thriller that follows the story of an advertising executive (Josh Brolin) who is abruptly kidnapped and held hostage for 20 years in solitary confinement. When he is inexplicably released, he embarks on an obsessive mission to discover who orchestrated his bizarre and torturous punishment only to find he is still trapped in a web of conspiracy and torment.

Check out a new set of stills and video interview with Lee talking about his reunion with JUNGLE FEVER star Samuel L. Jackson.

OLDBOY also stars Elizabeth Olsen, Sharlto Copley, Lance Reddick, Michael Imperioli, James Ransone and opens in US theaters on November 27th and the UK 6th December.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

Judging by the stills, it looks pretty ridiculous, especially Sam Jackson with his yellow mohawk. I’m clueless at the usefulness of this remake, I strongly doubt it will top the original masterpiece.
