Scott Cooper Replacing Affleck On Stephen King’s ‘The Stand’

Following the surprising Warner Bros. statement confirming Ben Affleck will don the cape and cowl as a more ‘mature’ Dark Knight in Zack Snyder’s currently-untitled Superman/Batman team-up, we have news on Affleck’s departure from the studio’s adaptation of Stephen King’s THE STAND. It was expected to be Oscar-winner’s next project behind-the-camera but his commitment to the future of the DC Comics universe suggests he’s in it for the long haul and has even excited helming the remake of French thriller TELL NO ONE, based on Harlen Coban’s novel. Those early JUSTICE LEAGUE directing rumours are looking good right now!

Fans of King’s famed novel needed worry though. An able replacement has been found in CRAZY HEART director Scott Cooper. His upcoming revenge-driven thriller OUT OF THE FURNACE coincidentally stars former Batman, Christian Bale and Affleck’s brother Casey, and the acclaimed filmmaker is said to be in final negotiations to bring us humankind’s fightback against man-made plague that left the world devastated.

We’ll keep you posted as confirmation and casting comes through.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
