Well, JURASSIC PARK 3D (Our all-new review here) was a bit of a blast from the past, although I doubt Mr Spielberg minds too much as it has dominated the global box office, with $30 million in ticket sales, including a whopping $28.8 million in China. Audiences have had a love-hate relationship with 3D films, but China seems to be the place for 3D movies to succeed, as last year TITANIC 3D earned $150 million.

JURASSIC PARK 3D also earned $45.4 million in North America, and Universal have got more reasons to celebrate as DESPICABLE ME 2 crossed the $800 million mark at the worldwide box office, making it the top grossing film of the year so far behind IRON MAN 3, which made $1.5 billion. Number two at the global box office this week was ELYSIUM starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, which tallied $20 million and $7.1 million in North America. Sony’s sci-fi epic has earned a total of $139.1 million. At number three was sequel PERCY JACKSON: SEA OF MONSTERS, earning an impressive $18.4 million internationally and $5.2 million in North America.

These totals are all correct as of Sunday 25th August; and we still have a good few months to go before we know which are 2013’s highest grossing films.
