Everyones favourite intergalactic outlaw is on the loose again next month, as the head of Vin Diesel serial-killing antihero Richard B. Riddick is wanted by a new batch of mercenaries for David Twohy’s simply-titled sci-fi threequel, RIDDICK. While we await Diesel’s unmistakable gravelly tones as Groot in next year’s Marvel adventure, GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, we’ve still the epic third chapter in the futuristic franchise to look forward to. One that began with awesome sleeper smash PITCH BLACK and continued with the bloated sequel THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK.
Diesel and his writer/director Twohy have been on the RIDDICK promotion trail and when asked whether there are any plans of making a fourth film, the man mountain confirmed plans are indeed in place for the sight-adjusted Furyan to return for a least another two films. Obviously, that future is almost certain to rest on how well the film performs at the box-office.
We don’t turn our backs on the mythology that we planted in the last movie. And we are actually bringing Karl [Urban] back for a few days of filming to advance it and lay the groundwork for movie four. It does play in a gratifying way as a standalone movie, but there are threads that we continue to sew that we started in previous movies and will continue in future movies. You’ve got to go to the Underverse. You’ll have to go through the Underverse to get to Furya. Those are the two stories that are mapped out.
Meanwhile, why not check out a brand new trio of television spots from the film release in cinemas from the 6th September and co-starring Karl Urban, Jordi Molla, Matt Nable, Katee Sackhoff, Bokeem Woodbine, Dave Bautista, Conrad Pla, Raoul Trujillo, Nolan Funk and Keri Hilson
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
