Now that the summer blockbuster season of 2013 is over and the dust has begun to settle, we are beginning to see a clear picture of the winners and losers of one of the most crowded summers to date.
Whilst the likes of IRON MAN 3, DESPICABLE ME 2 and FAST & FURIOUS 6 have been the biggest winners of the year so far, there have also been a staggering number of box office disappointments over the past three months. As a result the box office totals of THE LONE RANGER, R.I.P.D and RED 2 will not have studio executives celebrating any time soon.
Even with successes and failures of summer 2013 there has also been a few surprise box office hits. NOW YOU SEE ME crept up on audiences in early July and despite a mixed response from critics, the film went on gain almost three hundred million dollars at the worldwide box office on a seventy five million dollar budget.
Now comes word that director of the first film, Louis Leterrier is returning for a second helping of magic-filled adventure. Here is what the director had to say:
‘I’m currently, not writing, but we’re coming up with the story, the plot, the everything, the twist and the new characters and everything. It was always at least a diptych, two movies, to tell one long story, so yeah, I’m very much involved in it. I don’t know if it’s going to be my next movie. I know we want to do it pretty fast but I might be able to do another movie in between.’
Although critics were divided on the film, there’s not doubt that it certainly delivered adrenaline fueled action and adventure as well as an all-star cast which didnt hurt. Now the only question is which stars from the first film will return for the second installment?
