Michael Bay’s followup to the successful but rather disappointing TRANSFORMERS: DARK OF THE MOON, simply titled TRANSFORMERS 4, has been shooting in Chicago and, while details of the Bayformers’ fourth outing are scarce, there has been much speculation about what the sci-fi sequel may have in store for audiences.
One rumour getting veteran franchise fans hot under the bonnet is the hope that everyone’s favourite prehistoric automatons, the Dinobots of the original 1980s cartoon, will make an appearance. Of course, nothing has been confirmed, but a recent photo showing the crew’s production hat seems to hint that TRANSFORMERS 4 may see the introduction of T-rex Grimlock and the gang to the Autobots’ lineup.
The hat’s logo, featuring the villainous Decepticons’ symbol in red, alongside the number four, clearly depicts what seems to be claw marks raked across it. One must remember that this is simply a hat and far from an official confirmation, though it could be the evidence that seasoned Transformers fans have been waiting for.
In other Transformers news, a Chicago resident posted a photo showing a large number of propaganda posters, appearing to show the presence of opposing campaigns relating to humanity’s views on the presence of the alien robots. With artwork inspired by the posters of Barack Obama and a likely reference to DARK OF THE MOON’s climactic battle (‘Remember Chicago’) these images give an insight into the themes that will be present in the movie. Certainly, they are a lot more reliable as evidence than a hat.
The film will be Bay’s final entry in the series before passing the torch to another director. Of the film, he says:
“We start four years later and there’s a reason why we’re meeting a new cast. We keep the ‘Transformers’ the way they were. It’s just four years later. There’s a reason the Transformers are redesigned. We’re trying to broaden the franchise and give it more places to go.”
TRANSFORMERS 4 is directed by Michael Bay, stars Mark Wahlberg and Jack Reynor and is set to release on July 27th 2014.
