Hans Zimmer is well known for his collaborations with Christopher Nolan and work on both THE DARK KNIGHT trilogy and MAN OF STEEL. With Warner Bros. planned sequel to MAN OF STEEL essentially combining the two by including a new Batman in the form of Ben Affleck, it poses the question as to whether Zimmer will return to score Zack Snyder’s epic team-up film.
In response to this question Zimmer has recently opened up about the possibility of returning to score the two characters in one film and remains sceptical at this point, here’s what he had to say on the matter:
“This is really complicated for me, because we all went, ‘Okay, we’re done with Batman,’ and now it’s sort of getting smuggled back in. I’ll have to have a think about that one. I might give you a new Batman if I do it.”
He was also quizzed on the controversial announcement that Ben Affleck has been cast as the latest actor to don the cape and cowl as Batman, here are his thoughts:
“I actually think it’s a really good choice, because #1 he’s a great filmmaker. He’s smart. He wouldn’t have taken it if he had set himself up for a fall. And, you know, he’s a bit older these days and that’s what we need, and he’s got a good chin.”
Whilst there has clearly been mixed reactions to Affleck’s casting, Zimmer endorses the idea and also doesn’t seem to have closed the door completely on returning to score SUPERMAN VS BATMAN (or whatever it ends up being called). The film will be released on July 17th 2015 and stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Lawrence Fishburne and Diane Lane. We will keep you posted with any further news and casting updates.
