I can’t deny that I know of many female friends who have been taken in by the Jane Austen big-screen adaption bug, and this isn’t just trying to be sexist, it just appears to be Colin Firth’s fault. Damn you, Firth. However, any good writer or anyone really has surely found a moment to appreciate the sheer talent of Austen and her timeless work.
I wasn’t sure what to expect of AUSTENLAND but the trailer is quite funny, awkward and strangely alluring with the always impressive Keri Russell taking on the lead. The film follows her character Jane Hayes and her obsession with all things Jane Austen. One day, she decides to spend her life savings on a trip to an English resort catering to Austen–crazed women, Jane’s fantasies of meeting the perfect Regency–era gentleman suddenly become more real than she ever could have imagined.
It’s based on the novel by Shannon Hale (who co-wrote the script), the film was written and directed by Jerusha Hess (writer, Napoleon Dynamite) and produced by Stephenie Meyer’s Fickle Fish Films.
