Kevin MacDonald, the celebrated director of films MARLEY and THE LAST KING OF SCOTLAND, is set to direct a new biopic based on the life of Elvis Presley. The film will be called LAST TRAIN TO MEMPHIS and is based on a book by Peter Guralnick. Mick Jagger, he of The Rolling Stones fame will co-produce, with John Fusco, who wrote YOUNG GUNS, LOCH NESS and HIDALGO, adapting said novel. The film is set up at Fox 2000.

51hsMB5VMYL._SY346_PJlook-inside-v2,TopRight,1,0_SH20_The book, full title ‘Last Train To Memphis: The Life Of Elvis Presley,’ is ‘based on hundreds of interviews and nearly a decade of research, it traces the evolution not just of the man but of the music and of the culture he left utterly transformed, creating a completely fresh portrait of Elvis and his world.’

There is nobody set to play Elvis as yet, however it looks like the filmmakers are looking for an unknown for the younger version of the star, setting up a website for their search urging young actors to send in audition tapes for the role.

Actors to have played the ‘King’ on film before include Don Johnson, Harvey Keitel, Kurt Russell and of course Val Kilmer in TRUE ROMANCE.

We’ll keep you updated on this exciting project as planning and pre-production develops.
