Tommy Lee Jones To Remake ‘The Cowboys’

Tommy Lee JonesTommy Lee Jones has quite the impressive career as a director. Well, he may have only released one film cinematically, but what a film that was. THE THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADAS ESTRADA is one of the most stunning films of the last ten years, and so we should all be very excited about Jones’ upcoming THE HOMESMAN. Thankfully we won’t have to wait another eight years before Jones gets behind the camera again, as he is already eyeing-up a remake of the John Wayne vehicle, THE COWBOYS.

The 1972 film, originally directed by Mark Rydell, saw John Wayne moving his cattle herd across harsh landscapes to prevent financial ruin. After his fellow ranchers leave him, he is forced to hire inexperienced schoolboys who end up learning some valuable life lessons. Much like Jones’ THE THREE BURIALS OF MELQUIADAS ESTRADA, this film sounds like both a literal and psychological journey, and with THE HOMESMAN also dealing with the escorting of people from A to B, it sounds as though Jones has found his niche.
