Brolin Was In Talks For Batman Before Affleck’s Casting In Man Of Steel Sequel

Josh Brolin

You may remember that we wrote, what felt like dozens and dozens of articles, that referred to possibly castings for the role of Batman in the MAN OF STEEL sequel, the role which officially went to Ben Affleck late last month. One of the guys who was said to be up for the coveted role of the Dark Knight at the time was OLD BOY star Josh Brolin, who this weekend confirmed that he had spoken to director Zack Snyder about it.

“We did. I didn’t have conversations about it, but Zack, that was part of his idea. It just didn’t turn out. It’s OK. It is OK. You know, another scenario might have worked better, but I’m happy for Ben.” Brolin was quoted in saying to The Huffington Post.

As we know there was a massive backlash from the fans about the casting, one which I actually believe was totally unfair, and that Affleck could make good with the role. Brolin commented on the Internet chants from fans too.

“I’ve never seen such a global reaction in my life, I feel for him, truly. I would not want to be him right now. The reaction becomes so personal. It’s like, ‘F*ck this guy, I wish he was dead.’ And you’re like, ‘What? Dude, seriously? This guy is just working like you are. He’s doing the same thing you are. He’s trying to make the best choices he can… I want him to kick ass and I want everyone to love it and kind of eat their words.”

MAN OF STEEL 2, or BATMAN Vs. SUPERMAN will be released in 2015.

Totally unfair?! Sounds like someone has forgotten a certain Daredevil debacle… Don’t you think we might want the role to be played by an actually good actor? The Fleck is only good in his own movies and his pal Kevin Smith’s, and quite terrible in the rest of his filmography without exception, so excuse us if we feel appalled by this casting choice. To think Brolin was evicted to the benefit of THAT is somewhat depressing to say the least.
