Vin Diesel’s action packed threequel RIDDICK has exploded onto the US box-office chart, and entered the top ten at the number one position. The David Twohy directed film, which saw Diesel assume the role of his iconic character for the third time, gained a total of $18.7 in box-office revenue across the three days, shunting LEE DANIELS’ THE BUTLER to number two with $8.9 million in the bank. The film played in over 3,300 locations, acouple of hundred more than RIDDICK. INSTRUCTIONS NOT INCLUDED (“No se Aceptan Devoluciones”), which was targeted at the large Hispanic audience across the States, hit number three. The film, which stars and is directed by Eugenio Derbez, made a respectable $8.1 million million in week two after its total number of screens that it was playing on was nearly doubled.
At four is the hugely successful Jennifer Aniston comedy WE’RE THE MILLERS went up one spot with $7.9 million taken over the three days, taking its total gross to over $123 million on domestic soil.
Rounding out the top five was Disney’s PLANES, also in week five of release, taking $4.3 million weekend haul to its total take to just shy of $80 million (from a $50 million budget).
What’s interesting is the 74% drop for ONE DIRECTION: THIS IS US. The film now resides at the number six position after just over a week in the chart.
