DOCTOR WHO fans will be pleased, not only have the BBC announced the run time and title of the highly anticipated 50th Anniversary special but also a variety of other special companion programmes to celebrate the anniversary year.
The programmes special episode to air on 23rd November will star current Doctor Matt Smith as well as returning Doctor David Tennant with his companion Billie Piper and special guest star John Hurt. The episode will also feature the Doctors greatest enemies the Dalek’s. The BBC has revealed the episode will be seventy five minutes long and is titled ‘The Day of the Doctor’.
In addition to this a one off drama chronicling the creation of DOCTOR WHO titled ‘An Adventure in Space and Time’ will air later in the year, the programme was written by Mark Gatiss and stars David Bradley as William Hartnell. BBC Four will also show William Hartnell’s first ever four part DOCTOR WHO adventure ‘An unearthly child’ in fully restored format never previously seen in the UK.
BBC Two will show a lecture programme hosted by Professor Brian Cox on the Science behind DOCTOR WHO and also a culture show hosted by Matthew Sweet entitled ‘Me, you and Doctor Who’ discussing the cultural significance of the programme.
If that wasn’t enough to wet the appetite of DOCTOR WHO fans, BBC Radio Two will also have a special show called ‘Who is the Doctor?‘ which will feature newly recorded interviews and exclusive archive recording. Bleeding cool also mentions ‘BBC Three will be home to several commissions’ so it’s likely that there will be many more treats to come for the exciting 50th Anniversary year.
