Eli Roth’s THE GREEN INFERNO has only just premiered as part of the Toronto International Film Festival’s Midnight Madness and there’s already talk of a sequel. Roth’s latest horror follows a group of activists who travel into the rain forest in the hopes of protecting a tribe. Unfortunately they end up captured by the tribe they are trying to protect. Roth will not be directing the sequel however, as that job falls to Nicolas Lopez. Hopefully this will give the sequel a different kind of bite.
BEYOND THE GREEN INFERNO is a film that Lopez is already setting high hopes for with comparisons to ALIENS:
After writing and scouting all over Peru, we realized that THE GREEN INFERNO had an expansive universe and that we would love to visit it again and go deeper into the jungle. Our plan with BEYOND THE GREEN INFERNO is to make a sequel in the tradition of ALIENS, where the creative team went bigger, darker and scarier into the unknown.
Having not even seen the original, it’s a bit hard to comment on the idea of a sequel just yet. I must say though, the plot sounds brilliant and I love the twist of having a bunch of do-gooders forced to realise that they are completely wrong. It’s very un-PC, which is what we want from horror sometimes.
THE GREEN INFERNO should be released sometime later this year/early 2014. It stars Lorenza Izzo, Ariel Levy, Aaron Burns, and Sky Ferreira.
