Son of ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST stuntman, John Landis, and writer of found-footage superhero flick CHRONICLE, Max Landis, wants to take on a DC character. Having his CHRONICLE 2 script turned down by Fox hasn’t prevented the man from looking for further superheroic material and he’s eyeing up some of the big hitters.
Max Landis was asked on Reddit which superhero character he would like to tackle and the man gave us two from his wishlist:
either a version of Green Lantern that played like ET meets Stand By Me using the goth/punk seen and Kyle Raynor, or Wonder-Woman, using a pitch that I intend to make to WB.
So it sounds as though WONDER WOMAN could be a genuine possibility. No doubt Warner Bros. are looking to adapt some of their other heavy-hitters now that Batman and Superman will be teaming up in the same film. We’re also yet to see a female lead superhero franchise, so this could be DC’s chance to overtake Marvel in some capacity, because let’s face it, they’ve been playing catch-up for awhile now.
The other idea has me even more intrigued. A 1980s style GREEN LANTERN would be epic, and could help to erase all the nonsense of the Ryan Reynolds disaster. As my favourite superhero, I need another GREEN LANTERN film, no matter which of the Lanterns it follows.
CHRONICLE was a fantastic look at the superhero genre, and I have no idea why Fox turned Landis down for the sequel. Let’s hope their loss is another studio’s gain. Landis is currently editing his directorial debut ME HIM HER, and has also scripted the upcoming version of FRANKENSTEIN.
