In a modern cinematic world where big screen team-ups of iconic actors and characters are all the rage with films such as THE EXPENDABLES, THE AVENGERS and SUPERMAN VS. BATMAN, it was only a matter of time before Rocky and Raging Bull ended up in the ring together.
GRUDGE MATCH will bring together the two legendary actors in a comedy from director Peter Segal. The plot of the film will see the two boxing champions come together for a grudge match 50 years after they fought for the title. The general premise sounds as if it will definitely be entertaining and it should be amusing to the see Stallone and De Niro flex their comedic muscles in the direction of their boxing personas.
USA Today has a brand new still for the film as well as an interview with the director. Here is an interview segment from Segal on the two iconic actor’s previous roles in ROCKY and RAGING BULL:
“We found this amazing footage of Sly training for Rocky and Bob training for Raging Bull, and put parts of both in the movie,” Segal says. Bull director Martin Scorsese even shot some 16mm footage of De Niro training with former middleweight champion LaMotta, and gave portions of the home movies to Segal. “Seeing them train for these iconic roles was watching film history.”
