Bruckheimer Developing ‘Bad Boys 3’ & ‘Beverly Hills Cop 4’?

Jerry BruckheimerJerry Bruckheimer is a producing machine, but recently his big budget summer blockbusters have failed to bust any blocks, making them very unblockbuster-like. Having spent most of his time in TV recently, his proposed theatrical franchise starters PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME, THE SORCERER’S APPRENTICE and THE LONE RANGER struggled to rake in the big bucks. This is probably why his IMDb page lists not one, not two, but five sequels to popular films as being in-development. Among those is BAD BOYS 3, which Variety has stated, Bruckheimer is currently working on the script for.

But five sequels just isn’t enough, and Bruckheimer is now being courted for a sixth in the form of BEVERLY HILLS COP 4. Eddie Murphy really wants to return as Axel Foley and has already hired MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: GHOST PROTOCOL writers Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec, and now Bruckheimer is in talks to return to the franchise he helped start in the 1980s. The proposed Beverly Hills Cop TV show had a pilot filmed, but it wasn’t picked up by CBS. The pilot starred Brandon T. Jackson and Eddie Murphy.

I’m not too excited by either BEVERLY HILLS COP 4, nor BAD BOYS 3. They seem like desperate attempts by stars and producers who are struggling in terms of box-office business and are rehashing the same old, same old, rather than pushing the limits. Still, if it’s what the fans want and the scripts can be clever and witty, then go for it.

His love of film extends to all aspects of his life, with trips abroad being planned around film locations and only buying products featured in Will Smith movies.
