A viral-style video clip has been uploaded to promote upcoming French found footage horror film AFFLICTED. In the clip, titled ‘Prepare to be shocked’, two men are watching a series of videos they have been sent by someone they had met at a bar, who also happens to be featured in the videos. What is seen on the screen is weird, shocking and well deserving of a ‘WTF’ and seems to hint that AFFLICTED may have a CHRONICLE-like flavour to it.
AFFLICTED stars co-directors and co-writers Derek Lee and Cliff Prowse as two friends whose world travels are cut short when one of them contracts an unknown affliction of the which begins to take over his body. Presumably some very bad things happen because of this.
Viral marketing is a fantastic way to promote a film of this type as it remains mysterious and allows audiences to suspend their disbelief. Perhaps the most famous use of viral marketing for a film was THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, for which a website confirming the events was set up and rumours were spread on message boards.
AFFLICTED premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and has an early 2014 release date. Any thoughts on what is happening in the videos? Let us know!
Here’s the clip:
