Following our story back in June as to whom the big-baddies of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 may be, we considered the possibility that the fan-favourite of not one, but six Spider-Man enemies turning up in the form of the Sinister Six, which may soon become a reality. Now the inclusion of the Sinister Six up until recently has all been speculation, theory and some serious grinding of the rumour mill.
Although, consider this set photo released last month (seen below) featuring Avi Arad next to a ‘Sinister Six’ building. Along with TotalFilm’s recent interview (Potential spoilers!) with Jamie Foxx regarding him being a part of the Sinister Six, which he then confirmed had been actively discussed in production. it turns out we may be seeing the Sinister Six on the silver screen in THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, if not 3.
Throughout the many story arcs and ubiquitous universes of the webslinger, the Sinister Six has appeared numerous times, comprising of variants of spidey’s foes. Originally, the Sinister Six were a group of great, villainous thinkers-turned do-ers, comprised of Doctor Octavius, who has yet to appear in this rebooted universe, along with The Vulture, a.k.a. Adrian Toomes, who is set to appear in the sequel, played by Colin Feore. Next up is Electro, who we know is one of the primary antagonists of THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2, played by Jamie Foxx, as well as classic spidey-villains Kraven The Hunter, Mysterio and Sandman, all of whom, like Doc Oc before them, have yet to appear.
However, in the source material, these were not exclusively the nemeses of Spider-Man that were asked to join the Sinister Six. Of those asked was most notably the Green Goblin and the Lizard. Considering the former’s counter-part, Norman Osborn, has already been confirmed to be in the next film, played by Chris Cooper and the latter, Dr. Curt Conners, from the first film, we may have an additional two members to the super-villain teamup. Throw in Paul Giamatti’s Rhino (who – if Mr. Foxx’s CGI’d Electro is anything to go by – we should expect to be rather visually impressive), then that is already five of the supposed Sinister Six.
Whatever is brewing in the super-powered stew, we’ll know when the first trailer for THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 hits before THOR: THE DARK WORLD and THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE, and the film will be released May 2, 2014.
