THE MUMMY reboot has been rumoured ever since the third film starring Brendan Fraser tried something a little different and didn’t exactly amaze anyone. Universal are aching to get their infamous monsters back on the big screen, and with iterations of Frankenstein and Dracula coming from many different studios (Yahoo for the public domain), Universal are looking at THE MUMMY as their next big thing. After all, THE MUMMY is one of Universal’s monsters not tainted by the awful VAN HELSING.
Len Wiseman dropped out as director in July and now it looks as though Universal have found a perfect replacement. Andres Muschietti, known for the financial success MAMA, is in talks with the studio. We’re guessing it was the box-office and horror elements that make him the perfect match, and not just the similarities in names of the two films.
The reboot is said to take place in modern day and is being scripted by Jon Spaihts, best known for PROMETHEUS.
