Must See: (Breaking) Bad Fairy Tales As Told By Bad Ass Jonathan Banks

He’s always been a character actor I loved seeing in the films of Walter Hill, 1980s hit gangster series ‘Wiseguy’ and Ron Shelton’s underrated corrupt cop drama DARK BLUE but ‘Breaking Bad’ has finally seen Jonathan Banks given the plaudits he’s so deserved. He’s nominated for an Emmy for his unforgettable role as ex-cop-turned-mercenary Mike Ehrmantraut in the best show on television bar-non. Few actors could eclipse the awesome Bryan Cranston but Banks did just that during his run the AMC series created by Vince Gilligan.

Despite his unforgiving nature, what gave Banks’ character a lot of heart was the fact he did all those bad things to give his young granddaughter a better future. So, in Paul Tompkins’ “Speakeasy” web series, he shows that softer side reading a twisted collection of fairy stories. However, that ruthless streak soon comes out in profanity-laced versions of those classic kids tales. This really is cool-as-f**k and damn right hilarious!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
