The film that showed even the iconic director Steven Spielberg likes a bit of lesbian filth as he led the Cannes Film Festival jury to award BLUE IS THE WARMEST COLOUR the Palme d’Or. Centring on Adele (Adèle Exarchopoulos), a young girl discovering her early sexuality as falls in love with the alluring Emma (Léa Seydoux), the film charts their love affair over several years. Not only did it bag the top prize at the prestigious French film event but also the best director for Abdellatif Kechiche and acting honours for two lead actresses.

Kechiche’s movie is, like the films of John Cassavetes, an epic of emotional transformation that pulses with gestures, embraces, furtive exchanges, and arias of joy and devastation. It is a profoundly moving hymn to both love and life.
