Adam Sandler To Star In Tom McCarthy’s ‘The Cobbler’

Adam Sandler

After a long run of diverse comedies over the past few years, it looks like Adam Sandler is looking to go serious once again. The Wrap has revealed that Sandler is in negotiations to star in Tom McCarthy’s indie drama THE COBBLER.

Audiences can take a slight sigh of relief that Sandler is looking into serious acting once again, as it feels like far too long since we have really seen what the actor can do. Whilst his recent films such as JACK AND JILL and THAT’S MY BOY haven’t exactly wowed any critics they were all sizeable box office successes. However it definitely feels like the right time for Sandler to remind us all that he is a very talented actor, after all the last serious performance from him I can remember was in 2009’s criminally underrated FUNNY PEOPLE.

THE COBBLER is said to be Tom McCarthy’s next film after his other planned project SPOTLIGHT hit a few speed bumps. As for the plot, here’s what the Wrap has said:

‘“The Cobbler” follows a shoe repair man with the ability to “walk in other peoples’ shoes,” so to speak, as he can metaphysically step into their lives for a certain period of time.’

Well the synopsis has me interested and it sounds as if the film could definitely hit a few emotional beats too. THE COBBLER will be produced by McCarthy’s frequent collaborator Mary Jane Skalski, and will be filmed before Sandler goes off to shoot Jason Reitman’s MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN.

As always we’ll update you with any more news on this.
