No, it’s not a sequel to ALAN PARTRIDGE: ALPHA PAPA. We’ve just received the following press release giving details surrounding the independent British crime-thriller NORFOLK. The film will star Denis Menochet and Barry Keoghan as a troubled father and son whose worlds collide in a intense and disturbing story about right and wrong. Check out the intriguing plot synopsis from what could be a very special project and one that’s different from the familiar London world of guns, gangster and geezers!

A father and son live a reclusive lifestyle in the middle of nowhere. The man, a disillusioned mercenary, has his final target in sight – a gang of foreign revolutionaries who lay low in a nearby derelict compound. As the man closes in on his target the boy falls for the revolutionaries’ serving girl. Having spent his whole life in isolation the boy now discovers the warmth of friendship and the pleasures of something more. As father and son collide the boy is sent running, running in pain and full of betrayal, straight into the twisted embittered arms of the boy’s maternal grandparents, who have come to snatch and save the boy. Figuring out what is right and wrong, what is good and bad is a task for both the man and the audience.

London, September 2013 – Creative England, BBC Films, the BFI and Creative Skillset are delighted to announce that principal photography is underway on SDI Productions, Crybaby Films & iFeatures Production feature film Norfolk. The film will be shot on location in Norfolk and Lincolnshire.

Steve Jenkins from BBC Films says:”Norfolk is a very special project, a disturbing and haunting thriller set within a unique and mysterious  East Anglian landscape. Martin is exactly the kind of distinctive film-maker iFeatures is designed to encourage.”

Chris Collins, Senior Executive in the BFI Film Fund, comments: “This intriguing thriller delves into a strange and compelling world which is full of surprises. Martin is a sensitive filmmaker whose well-crafted short films displayed a mysterious beauty that we’re excited to see applied to this intense portrait of Norfolk.”

iFeatures2 Executive Producer Tristan Goligher adds “Martin, Finlay and Rachel have brought together an exceptional cast and crew for this project, which is a credit to them, and also the strength of the script. Together I have no doubt they are about to make one of the most striking British films we have seen for a long time.

Creative England, BBC Films and the BFI present Norfolk, an SDI Productions, Crybaby Films & iFeatures Production.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
