And people say the movie magicians are running low on ideas, they’re not though, they’ve had the idea that no matter how many times its been done before, anything can be remade until the end of time, especially if its Shakespeare.
It’s been seventeen years since the star crossed lovers last graced our cinema screens in Baz Luhrmann’s re-imagined production of ROMEO & JULIET, which means the money tree is once again more than ripe for the picking. This time it’s Carlos Carlei steering the Shakespearean flagship for Relativity Media.
The film stars Hailee Steinfeld, Douglas Booth, Paul Giamatti and Stellan Skarsgard and will tell the story of two young lovers kept apart by the rivalry of…oh you already know. It’s a classic tale and one that deserves to be re discovered by those who are somehow unfamiliar with the story. At least it offers English literature teachers a new DVD to do their job for them while confused teenagers remain uninterested. It’s proof that the story may well live forever and ever and ever, and ever.

ROMEO & JULIET also stars Damian Lewis, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Ed Westwick, with a script by Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey). It opens on 11th October.
