New Stills & First Clip Escape From Historical Biopic ’12 Years A Slave’

Following a number of recent festival screenings, acclaimed director Steve McQueen’s (HUNGER and SHAME) forthcoming harrowing, historical biopic 12 YEARS A SLAVE, appears to be the early frontrunner for the big award ceremonies. Singled out for high praise has been the film’s lead Chiwetel Ejiofor. He takes on the role of the true story of Solomon Northup, a well educated New Yorker who was beaten and sold into slavery in the 1850s.

The supporting cast is outstanding with McQueen reunited with muse Michael Fassbender, as well as Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Dano, Garret Dillahunt, Paul Giamatti, Scoot McNairy, Lupita Nyong’o, Adepero Oduye, Sarah Paulson, Brad Pitt, Michael Kenneth Williams and Alfre Woodard.

Check out this first clip and new set of images from the film scheduled to be released in the US on the 18th October and a UK date of the 24th January 2014.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
