Disney Planning Live-Action ‘Cruella’

Cruella de Vil

News has surfaced that Disney are planning a live-action reimagining of 101 DALMATIANS villainess Cruella de Vil.

Currently titled CRUELLA, screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna (who penned THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA and the currently-in-production CINDERELLA) has been hired to write the script, making it Disney’s latest foray into live-action retellings of their classic tales. Although a director hasn’t been announced, Andrew Gunn (producer of BEDTIME STORIES) is set to produce.

This won’t be the first time Cruella has been brought to life through live-action; who can forget Glenn Close’s perfect (and terrifying) portrayal in 101 DALMATIANS (1996) and sequel 102 DALMATIANS (2000)?! I was only seven years-old and could tell she was talented…and also really scary. It’ll be hard for anyone to out-shine Close, but the only person I keep thinking would be perfect for the role is Meryl Streep – a certain cold-hearted magazine editor comes to mind.

Who would you like to see take on the black-and-white wig? Let us know.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.

Though Meryl Streep would indeed be a good choice, my pick would be Cristine Rose (Angela Petrelli of Heroes fame). She plays the cold bitch just as perfectly as Close and Streep, already has dark hair (meaning less dyeing work) and would be a lot cheaper than superstar Streep.
