Black Widow actress Scarlett Johansson talked about her relationship with the Cap in the upcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER earlier this week, and now it’s the turn of Anthony Mackie. With the ability to fly and the powers to communicate with and see through the eyes of birds, Mackie plays Falcon, who was introduced to the Marvel Universe in 1969 as a sidekick to Captain America. Falcon is a very important character in Marvel’s history as he was the first African-American super-hero to appear in mainstream comics.
In a recent interview with MTV, Mackie emphasised that his character in the film is more than the Captain’s decoy, saying that they have a ‘working relationship’ in which they are equals. With Black Widow added to the mix, the film appears to be going for a three-hero team rather than solely focussing on the titular super soldier:
‘The three of us work really well together and we support each other. All of us are really different in our abilities and powers, so when we come together we make an awesome tandem’.
This combination of skills could lead to some brilliantly-choreographed scenes of teamwork akin to the battle in AVENGERS ASSEMBLE.
As more information is released about THE WINTER SOLDIER, the film looks to be even more exciting. It will be interesting to find out what place the Winter Soldier himself has in the story as we last saw him (as Steve Rogers’ fellow soldier Bucky Barnes) plummeting to his inevitable death from a train on a very high track. How did he survive? Will the Winter Soldier fight for good or evil? Make sure to throw your predictions our way.
