Samuel L Jackson Confirms New Casting For Avengers Sequel

During an interview with The Wall Street Journal Samuel L Jackson seems to have confirmed a new cast addition. The actor who plays Nick Fury across the Marvel films was being interviewed about his part if any in the new television series which focuses on the agents that work for S.H.E.I.L.D. Part-way through he was quizzed about the sequel to AVENGER ASSEMBLE, he had the following to say,

‘I know we’re shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen, but I don’t know what she’s doing, if she’s on the inside or the outside. I haven’t seen a script.’

Outshining both of her older, more well known sisters in the acting realm Olsen has up to yet stuck to fairly small scale films. Having starred in SILENT HOUSE, OLDBOY and the forthcoming GODZILLA she is also fast becoming the queen of the remakes. AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON will see her plunged into the world of the blockbuster. Though not yet confirmed it is highly likely that Olsen will play Scarlet Witch.

For those not in the know Scarlet Witch a.k.a Wanda Maximoff technically comes from the X-Men franchise. The sister of Quicksilver her role within the Avengers world may seem confusing to some. Being linked to both Hawkeye and Ultron’s creation The Vision, in the comics it looks like she will likely be a love-interest for the underused Hawkeye.

Fans can expect her brother to make an appearance as well with KICKASS star Aaron Taylor Johnson, Olson’s GODZILLA co-star, the current front-runner.

Scarlet Witch may be linked to X-Men via her mutant status and first appearance (1964) but she actually never was part of any X team whereas she became an Avenger only one year after said first appearance, so she’s perfectly entitled to feature in Avengers 2. She’s also linked to Coulson as the cellist but it’s unlikely this storyline will be exploited in the movie, as Olsen might be a bit too young to be Gregg’s love interest. It could be an interesting mirroring of her anorexic big sister’s life, though…
