First TV Spots For ‘The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug’

I’m a huge fan of unique visionary director Guillermo del Toro and like many fans of Peter Jackson’s THE LORD OF TRILOGY, I’d have loved to see what he would have done differently with J.J.R. Tolkein’s Middle-earth. Sadly, it wasn’t to be and instead we got the disappointing and overblown sci-fi creature feature PACIFIC RIM. As for Jackson? It was like riding a bicycle and slipping back into that fantasy world was like he’d never been away. Which given his home of native New Zealand, is very true with many of the same locations used for prequel THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY.

This December sees the return of the reluctant hero Bilbo Baggins (Martin Freeman) as he continues in his quest to aide a band of Dwarf warriors in reclaiming their lost Kingdom of Erebor from fire-breathing dragon Smaug. He’s back amongst friends including Gandalf (Ian McKellen) and the fearless collection of short soldiers led by Thorin Oakenshield (Richard Armitage) for sequel THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG and following this weeks brand new trailer, we’ve two new television spots to remind us the journey is not yet complete!

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG is released on the 13th December and co-stars James Nesbitt, Ken Stott, Elijah Wood, Lee Pace, Cate Blanchett, Ian Holm, Aiden Turner, Hugo Weaving, Benedict Cumberbatch, Luke Evans, Evangeline Lily, Orlando Bloom and Andy Serkis.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
