Chu Out Of ‘Masters Of The Universe’ As New Writer Jumps Onboard!

I grew up in the age of Greyskull and was a huge fan of the He-Man & The Masters Of The Universe cartoon series and toy range well before Dolph Lundgren declared “I Have The Power!” in 1987. I even had the same bedspread as Father Dougal Maguire in Father Ted (oh yeah, Battlecat), while that aforementioned cult classic movie played on constant loop! I’m showing my age now but I’m still excited, even at the age of 33, of a big-screen blockbuster doing the world of Eternia justice.

A new film based on Mattel’s creation, currently titled GREYSKULL, has been in development for some time now over at Columbia Pictures. G.I. JOE: RETALIATION’s John M. Chu was set to helm but is now confirmed as to have departed the project, despite only weeks ago commenting that things were still moving forward. A script by THE MECHANIC’s Richard Wenk was most recently turned in but the project now has a new screenwriter.  Terry Rossio – co-writer of THE LONE RANGER and THE PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN franchise – has been hired to give GREYSKULL a new lease of life.

Will this ever happen? Finger crossed!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
