The Vice-Chairman of Exclusive Media and President & CEO of Hammer Films, Simon Oakes, has confirmed today that the studio will produce the big-screen supernatural thriller THE DAYLIGHT GATE, after acquiring of the film rights to Jeanette Winterson’s critically-acclaimed novel of the same name.

Hammer Films have had a resurgence on the last couple of years, mostly due to the success of James Watkins’ adaptation on Susan Hill’s spooky story THE WOMEN IN BLACK. A sequel to the Daniel Radcliffe horror – THE WOMEN IN BLACK: ANGEL OF DEATH – is due later next year, while the studios much-anticaped poltergeist chiller THE QUIET ONES, starring Jared Harris and Sam Claflin, has just seen its release shifted to April 2014.

THE DAYLIGHT GATE is set in the early 17th century and is based on the notorious English Pendle Witch Trial. We’ll keep you posted as the cast and crew come together.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
