Shia LaBeouf may get some stick for his part in the TRANSFORMERS franchise and a forced role in INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL, but judging by this trailer for his latest film, CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN, he’s on to a real winner. The film sees Charlie Countryman (LaBeouf) travel to Romania when suddenly he discovers the man sitting next to him on the plane has died. This leads Charlie to meeting the deceased man’s daughter (Evan Rachel Wood), which in turn leads him on a wild adventure through dark streets and bizarre meetings with strange individuals. Mads Mikkelsen plays Wood’s husband who seems a bit on the dangerous side, and there are enough stars to make this interesting.
The trailer looks absolutely insane, as it jumps from sweet romance into dangerous violence. The quotes praising the film, that pop up throughout the trailer, all make note of how ‘insane’ the film is, but they also praise it for its inability to be pigeonholed in a single category. LaBeouf seems to be doing his usual shtick, but it may just suit this character. Mikkelsen, fresh from his turn as Hannibal Lecter in Hannibal is particularly menacing.
CHARLIE COUNTRYMAN is released in the UK on 8th November and has a limited release in the US on 15th November. It stars Shia LaBeouf, Evan Rachel Wood, Mads Mikkelsen, Rupert Grint, Melissa Leo, Til Schweiger, James Buckley, and Vincent D-Onofrio.
