One of the UK’s top directing talents is to bring his unique style to legendary fan favourite series Doctor Who. Ben Wheatley, director of the stark and darkly comic thrillers DOWN TERRACE, KILL LIST and SIGHTSEERS has confirmed that he’ll helm the first two episodes to feature new Timelord Peter Capaldi, who takes over square-jawed Matt Smith in this years Christmas Special. Wheately’s most recent work was the mind-bending horror A FIELD IN ENGLAND and has previously cut his television teeth with cult series, Ideal, with Johnny Vegas.

Wheately commented:

I am very excited and honoured to be asked to direct the first two episodes of the new series of Doctor Who. I’ve been a fan since childhood. I’m really looking forward to working with Peter Capaldi and finding out where Steven Moffat is planning to take the new Doctor.

Are you happy Wheatley’s hopping aboard the Tardis? Do let us know!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
