Superman is arguably the most well known superhero on the planet, with his iconic ‘S’ symbol recognized around the world by billions of people. The character has already had a great year with the highly successful release of MAN OF STEEL starring Henry Cavill as the last son of krypton. To celebrate Superman’s 75th anniversary Warner Bros animation have produced a short two minute animated film chronicling the characters history and highlights from Zack Synder and Bruce Timm.
Bruce Timm is the man who crafted the animated short alongside MAN OF STEEL director Zack Snyder, which references everything from Superman legend Christopher Reeve to the characters fatal battle with doomsday in ‘The Death of Superman’. Bruce Timm is well known to fans for creating some of the most beloved DC Comics animated adaptations of all time, such as BATMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, SUPERMAN: THE ANIMATED SERIES, BATMAN BEYOND and JUSTICE LEAGUE: UNLIMITED. Here is a segment from Entertainment Weekly’s interview with animation guru Bruce Timm:
‘It was Zack Snyder’s idea, we had approached him about maybe doing a short for the DC Nation program on Cartoon Network. He said, ‘I’ll think about it,’ and then he had this idea to do basically the entire history of Superman in, like, a minute. We said, ‘Okay … whoooo.’ We started working and quickly realized there was no way to do it, even in a minute.’
The video is certainly stunning and a treat for any fan to see, Snyder and Timm’s passion for the character is clear and present throughout which makes it all the more beautiful to watch. Head over to EW for the rest of the interview and to see the video itself.
