A number of weeks ago, THN brought you details of possible casting for Working Title’s controversial biopic of legendary cyclist-turned-drug cheat Lance Armstrong. Ben Foster was circling the lead in the film set to be directed by the acclaimed filmmaker Stephen Frears. We can now confirm Foster will indeed play the disgraced seven-time Tour de France champion, now stripped of those titles for doping offences. The actor known for his intense and conflicted characters will be joined by Chris O’Dowd, who takes on the role of sportswriter David Walsh. He went on to wrote the book, ‘Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit Of Lance Armstrong’, which this film will be based.

Strong support will also come from Guillaume Canet and Breaking Bad‘s brilliant Jesse Plemons in the adaptation of John Hodge’s screenplay which charts Armstrong’s rise through the 1990s and early 2000s as the sports dominant force, his battle with cancer and his downfall.

Working Title are hoping to beat Warner Bros. to the big-screen, who are also developing their own feature with Jay Roach and starring Bradley Cooper.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
